Players begin outside the area's, there should be one side of the each area touching and still one side without a player on it. 1 player on each area has a ball. |
|||
Ball is passed across the area to another player. The passing player then moves into the area. The ball is then passed by that receiving player to another player on the outside. They then run to one of the empty sides. The new receiving player must then pass the ball into the player who is in the middle of the area, following their pass into the middle. They then turn with the ball and dribble into the other area. Once inside that area they pass to one of the outside players and then take up a position on one of the free sides. The sequence then repeats itself as that receiving player passes to the outside then moves into the middle, the next player then passes to another outside player and moves to an empty side (on the outside), then the ball is passed into the player in the middle. So there are 3 players involved in each sequence before the player moves into the different area:
Player 1 - Plays ball to outside, moves into middle of the area.
Player 2 - Receives ball and passes to another player outside, then they move to an empty side of the area.
Player 3 - Receives the ball and passes it into the player in the middle of the area, they then follow their pass into the area and await the next pass to them.
The focus of the session is on the quality of the passing, so the following factors should be focused upon;
- The placement of their non kicking foot next to the ball.
- Turning their kicking foot outwards so that they contact with the ball using the inside of their foot.
- They should keep their back straight, do not lean back, and aim to connect with the centre of the ball.
- By doing all these they ensure that the ball will remain on the floor while it travels and not bounce or become an aerial pass.
Although the pass is the focused other factors can be focused upon:
- Receiving Player in the Middle - Check out into the other grid before they receive their pass. Observe their position and Control the ball on the half turn. Head up when dribbling, avoiding other players.
- Receiving Player on the Outside - On front of feet ready to receive pass. Evident change of speed once they have passed it. All players should communicate throughout the session.
If the two groups work at the same pace then the session will flow nicely, however if one group misplaces passes then that may cause the exercise to slow down.
