Organisation
Group is divided into two equally numbered teams.
Goal is placed infield so that there is space behind it.
One team spreads out in the space behind the goal, the other team lines up, 20 yards from goal.
The coach has a designated area next to the goal where all the balls are kept.
Coach feeds the ball to the attacking team and their first player runs onto the pass to have a 1st time strike at goal. They then return to the back of the line.
Due to the nature of how the teams swap the goalkeeper should try and save the ball and if possible knock the ball over the bar for a team mate to catch.
The teams change positions when a shot is caught by one of the players behind the goal.
A point is awarded for every goal scored.
Teams change over as many times are required.
Game lasts as long as coach wishes – number of turns per team or time limit duration.
If teams do not swap over that often, then players can be awarded a greater amount of points if they score in the top corner, to encourage higher shots.
Key observations
Attacking
- Accuracy (low, corners)
- Power (although this is secondary to accuracy)
Defending
- Get in line
- Communication
- Correct catching technique can also be worked upon.
