There is an opinion that exists where some believe that the referee just moves around the centre circle and generally strolls around the park. However that is be no means accurate, and this section will dispel that myth.

The reality is that at the top tier of performance, tests have shown that in a match a central midfield player (who would be considered the most dynamic player on the pitch) will cover 10km during the course of a game. While a referee will cover (on average) 14km, of which 3km will be run backwards!!

Therefore they should focus on their fitness levels as much as a player.
