What is Bulimia?
Bulimia is an eating disorder where sufferers binge uncontrollably on large amounts of foods then remove that intake of calories through vomiting, starving, excessive exercise or laxatives.
Attributes of a Suffer
· Regular bouts of binge eating; a couple of times a week for a number of months or even daily in severe cases.
· Purging; self induced vomiting, laxatives, diuretics, enemas, other medications, fasting, or excessive exercise.
· Body image issues
Warning Signs
· Excessive attention paid to their weight
· Fluctuations between strict dieting and binge eating
· Regular overeating
· Binges of high calorie, sweet foods
· Excessive exercise
· Excuses to leave table
· Regular visits to the toilet after meals
· Water / Hairdryer / Music can be heard in or near bathroom to cover sound
· Increase toilet paper usage
· Increased flushes
· Bloodshot / Watery eyes
· Gagging noises from toilet
· High consumption of certain liquid based foods; these are easier to bring up.
· Consumption of liquid with foods that would not normally associate it with; for example drinking water while bread is in the mouth or drinking excessively after eating bread, otherwise bread is extremely difficult to vomit.
· Stains around toilet
· Sick in the bowl
· Complaints of blood in spit / sick / throat
· Pain in upper abdomen after regurgitating
