Recovery Position

This is a position that all unconscious casualties should be placed in. The recovery position:

  • Prevents the tongue from blocking the airway.
  • Allows fluid to drain from the mouth, as the head is lower than the body and not level.
  • Head, neck and spine are all aligned.
  • Limbs are bent and placed into a safe, secure and comfortable position.
  • It is possible to safely leave a casualty unattended once they are in this position.
