he ability to go from stationary position to top speed in the shortest time possible is crucial for any player, regardless of their position. This is because they may need to:
- Close down an opponent
- Be the first to a loose ball
- Evade an opponent
- Exploit space
- Get ahead of a marker
These are all situations when a split second could be the difference between getting to the ball first, and ultimately the difference between scoring or preventing a goal.
These exercises look to increase the speed of an individual over the first 4 or 5 steps of the sprint.
