Quickness

The ability to go from stationary position to top speed in the shortest time possible is crucial for any player, regardless of their position. This is because they may need to:

  • Close down an opponent
  • Be the first to a loose ball
  • Evade an opponent
  • Exploit space
  • Get ahead of a marker

These are all situations when a split second could be the difference between getting to the ball first, and ultimately the difference between scoring or preventing a goal.

These exercises look to increase the speed of an individual over the first 4 or 5 steps of the sprint.
