Centre Forward (Target)

Role: To offer an outlet to the team and hold the ball up until further support is available.

Areas of operation: Central

Defensive Positional Responsibilities:

• Apply pressure to the opposing defenders
• Decide when to press and drop
• Delay the attack

Attacking Positional Responsibilities:

• Read build up play and time runs accordingly
• Recognize when to hold up play and when to pass
• Provide the team with a target
• Look to get into goal scoring opportunities
• Commit and attack defenders
• Take shooting opportunities when they arise
• Cause disruption in attack, either as an individual or as part of an attacking unit.

Physical needs:

• Jumping
• Strength
• Stamina

Psychological requirements:

• Bravery
• Understanding their role and how to link up with team mates

Technical requirements:

• Good touch
• Finishing
• Heading
• Passing
